The Guam Environmental Protection Agency (Guam EPA) is encouraging all students to enter in contests for Earth Week 2008.
Submittals are now being accepted for three events including a 3-D artwork contest, a banner contest and a photography contest. Each contest is focused to promote the Earth Week 2008 theme, "Conserve Our Reef Environment." Earth Week will be celebrated from April 19 to 26.
"Our coral reefs are a critical part of our environment. As a community we need to focus on how we can protect them for future generations," said Lorliee T. Cristosomo, administrator of Guam EPA. "We have planned events for the month of April that will help raise awareness about the importance of our fragile coral reef ecosystems."
Contests for students will be part of this year's celebration: the 3-D Artwork Contest for elementary schools, a banner contest for middle schools and a photography contest for high school students. In addition, the annual fashion show at the Island Pride festival will be open to the general public.
Students can register for the contests with their schools or complete the forms online and email them to Margaret.Aguilar@guamepa.net. To download the entry forms and to find more information about the contests, visit the Earth Week 2008! Web site.
Prizes for the contests include art supplies, free shirts and gift certificates. Winners of the photography contest will receive digital cameras. A complete listing of prizes can be found at the Earth Week 2008! Web site.
Winners of the artwork contests will also have their entries displayed throughout the month of April.
